โšก The Spell Brigade Elements Guide

All 7 base elements and 10 dual-element combinations fully explained. Learn which elements are best, how elemental infusion works, and what happens when your team runs complementary elements together.

๐Ÿงฌ How Elemental Infusion Works in The Spell Brigade

Elemental Infusion is one of the most impactful systems in The Spell Brigade. During a run, you unlock two Infusion slots โ€” the first at Level 7 and the second at Level 14. When you infuse a spell with an element, that spell's damage type changes and gains the element's effects on every hit for the remainder of the run.

The element you choose should match your spell's hit pattern. High-frequency multi-hit spells like Astral Orbs or Moonerang benefit enormously from Acid (applying corrosion on every hit), while burst spells benefit from Plasma or Lightning's Thunder. You can infuse each of your four spells with a different element โ€” doing so in a single run earns the Elemental Variety achievement.

The dual-element combination system is triggered by team play: when two players' infused spells hit the same enemy with complementary elements, a reaction occurs. For example, one player using Acid and another using Fire triggers Brimstone โ€” every corrosion proc causes a splash explosion. Coordinating elements with teammates is a key part of advanced The Spell Brigade team strategy.

โšก

Lightning

S-Tier

High piercing single-target damage with Thunder burst on initial hit (1.0). Chains between nearby enemies.

Lightning is the undisputed S-tier element in The Spell Brigade across all versions including 1.0. It excels at piercing through enemy lines and dealing consistent damage against all enemy types. The 1.0 rework added the Thunder mechanic โ€” a big strike on initial hit that front-loads damage before the sustained piercing effect. Lightning is the #1 element for Falling Stars (Star Mage GOAT build) and Astral Orbs secondary option.

๐Ÿงช

Acid

A-Tier

Damage-over-time (DoT) corrosion. Acid + Acid = Corrosion (target deals less damage). Acid + Fire = Brimstone (splash on proc).

Acid is the boss-killing element of The Spell Brigade. Its corrosion DoT stacks with most augmentations multiplicatively and applies on every individual hit โ€” meaning multi-hit spells like Moonerang (double hit) or Astral Orbs (multiple orbits) apply corrosion repeatedly. The famous community video of an Acid-infused skill killing a boss in seconds perfectly illustrates Acid's potential. In the 1.0 element combination system, Acid + Acid creates Corrosion โ€” a powerful debuff that reduces the target's damage output.

๐Ÿ”ฅ

Fire

B-Tier

AOE explosion damage on hit. Ignites enemies in blast radius. Fire + Acid = Brimstone. Fire + Ice = Frostbite.

Fire provides reliable AOE burst and is the most intuitive element for new players. While Fire falls behind Lightning and Acid in raw efficiency for solo play, it shines in 4-player co-op where multiple overlapping explosion zones create dense AOE coverage. The Pyrestorm Pit map's environmental fire hazards interact visually (but not mechanically) with Fire-infused spells. In 1.0, Fire + Acid creates Brimstone โ€” splash damage on each corrosion proc.

Wildfire

A-Tier

Spreads between nearby enemies. Can now inflict Critical Damage ticks (1.0 rework). Higher DPS than base Fire.

Wildfire is Fire's evolved cousin in The Spell Brigade and a significantly stronger element. The most important 1.0 change for Wildfire is the ability to now inflict Critical Damage ticks โ€” meaning Critical Damage enchantments directly boost Wildfire DPS for the first time. Wildfire spreads automatically between nearby enemies, creating chain damage without any player input. The Sun Mage's achievement 'Infuse Solar Pulse with Wildfire' unlocks one of the largest crit-capable AOE damage floors in the game.

Ice / Frost

B-Tier

Freezes targets completely (1.0 rework). Ice + Fire = Frostbite (knockback). Ice + Acid = Miasma (knockback spread).

Ice received a significant 1.0 upgrade โ€” it can now fully freeze targets, not just slow them. A frozen enemy is completely immobilized and takes increased damage from all sources, making Ice a strong setup element for team compositions. Hatti's Frost Branch terrain spell uses the Ice element and is the best example of the element at its peak. The dual-element combinations are particularly strong: Frostbite (Ice+Fire) creates knockback that separates enemy clusters, while Miasma (Ice+Acid) spreads the knockback to surrounding enemies.

Dark / Void

C-Tier

Corrupts enemies. Corrupted enemies gain unique behavior and spread corruption. Dark+Acid=Blight, Dark+Ice=Wither, Dark+Dark=Void, Dark+Fire=Hellfire.

Dark element received a complete overhaul in Update 13 and further refinement in 1.0. Corrupted enemies change behavior โ€” bosses Sol'phish and Krog'wa can be fully corrupted with strong Dark builds, gaining entirely new attack patterns. The dual-element system makes Dark extremely powerful in specialist team builds: Dark+Acid (Blight) makes corrupted enemies spread Acid to nearby targets; Dark+Ice (Wither) makes them spread Ice. A full-team Dark corruption build is the most complex โ€” and most rewarding โ€” team composition in The Spell Brigade.

Plasma

B-Tier

High instantaneous energy burst damage. Hatti's primary element. Required for Pi Damage achievement.

Plasma is a niche but powerful element in The Spell Brigade, most associated with Hatti the Frost Mage. It delivers high instantaneous burst damage rather than sustained DoT, making it optimal for deleting elites in one window. The Pi Damage achievement (314,159 Plasma Damage) uses a Pi-inspired target number and remains one of the stiffest challenges in the game. Plasma pairs best with Rune Burst, where a fully augmented burst can dump enormous Plasma damage in a single pop.

These reactions trigger in co-op when two players infuse complementary elements and hit the same enemy.

๐Ÿงช๐Ÿงช
Corrosion
Acid + Acid

Inflicts Weakness โ€” corrupted target deals less damage to all teammates. Excellent defensive debuff on bosses.

Two players both running Acid infusion triggers Corrosion on boss targets. Reduces incoming damage by a significant margin on Hardcore Threat runs.

๐Ÿงช๐Ÿ”ฅ
Brimstone
Acid + Fire

Each corrosion proc causes a splash explosion, dealing area damage to nearby enemies.

Strong for horde clearing. One player runs Acid, one runs Fire/Wildfire. Every boss corrosion tick also damages surrounding enemies.

โ„๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ
Frostbite
Ice + Fire

Frozen targets are knocked back on thaw, separating from enemy clusters.

Good for separating grouped elite enemies. Hatti freezes, Sun Mage Fire triggers knockback to scatter elites into killzones.

โ„๏ธ๐Ÿงช
Miasma
Ice + Acid

Frozen targets spread a knockback burst to surrounding enemies when hit.

Crowd control amplifier. Hatti freezes front enemies, Acid player triggers Miasma to scatter all surrounding mobs.

๐ŸŒ‘๐Ÿงช
Blight
Dark + Acid

Corrupted enemies automatically inflict Acid DoT on targets they touch.

Turns enemy mobs into walking Acid applicators. Corrupted enemies do the DoT spreading for you โ€” extremely powerful in large hordes.

๐ŸŒ‘โ„๏ธ
Wither
Dark + Ice

Corrupted enemies inflict Ice (slow/freeze) on targets they touch.

Crowd control through corruption chain. Corrupted enemies become mobile freeze-spreaders, creating a cascading slowdown across entire enemy waves.

๐ŸŒ‘๐ŸŒ‘
Void
Dark + Dark

Corrupted enemies spread Dark corruption to nearby enemies, creating a corruption chain reaction.

Requires all team members on Dark. Corruption spreads exponentially โ€” one corrupted enemy infects others, creating an unstoppable corruption cascade.

๐ŸŒ‘๐Ÿ”ฅ
Hellfire
Dark + Fire

Corrupted enemies inflict Fire damage on targets they touch.

Corrupted enemies become walking firebombs. Combined with Wildfire (which can now crit in 1.0), Hellfire creates self-propagating burning corruption.

โšกโšก
Thunder (Enhanced)
Lightning + Lightning

1.0 rework: Big thunder strike on initial hit, enhancing the existing Thunder effect.

Two Lightning players stack Thunder for massive burst on first contact. Particularly effective for instantly chunking elite enemy health.

๐ŸŒช๏ธ๐ŸŒช๏ธ
Wildfire (Critical Spread)
Wildfire + Wildfire

1.0 rework: Wildfire can now crit. Two Wildfire players create overlapping spreading crits.

Stack Critical Damage enchantments when running double Wildfire. Spreading crit ticks create compound damage across dense packs.

โš”๏ธ Acid vs Lightning vs Fire โ€” Which Wins?

The most common question about The Spell Brigade elements is the three-way comparison between Acid, Lightning and Fire. Here is the definitive community answer for 1.0:

For solo boss runs: Acid wins decisively. Corrosion DoT stacks on every hit of multi-hit spells, and the Acid+Acid Corrosion debuff reduces boss damage output โ€” making it both offensive and defensive. Reginald + Astral Orbs + Acid is the fastest boss kill in the game.

For general horde clearing solo: Lightning wins. Thunder burst on initial hit + sustained piercing damage destroys dense enemy lines. The Star Mage + Falling Stars + Lightning combo clears entire waves faster than any other single-player build.

For 4-player co-op AOE: Fire/Wildfire becomes competitive. Overlapping explosion zones from four players running Fire create constant AOE coverage that Lightning cannot match. Wildfire's new crit capability in 1.0 makes it the stronger co-op choice over base Fire.

Overall ranking: Lightning (S) โ‰ฅ Acid (A) > Wildfire (A) > Plasma (B) = Venom (B) > Fire (B) > Ice (B, CC) > Dark (C solo, S team).

โ“ The Spell Brigade Elements โ€” FAQ

What is the best element in The Spell Brigade? +

Lightning is the community's consensus S-tier element in The Spell Brigade. It deals high piercing damage, received the Thunder burst upgrade in 1.0, and synergizes with almost every spell in the game. For boss-specific encounters, Acid is S-tier due to its corrosion DoT stacking.

How do dual-element combinations work in The Spell Brigade? +

When two or more players on the same team infuse their spells with complementary elements, a dual-element reaction triggers. For example, if one player uses Acid and another uses Fire, their combined hits on the same enemy create Brimstone โ€” causing each corrosion proc to also splash nearby enemies. There are 10 confirmed dual-element combinations in 1.0.

What does the Acid element do in The Spell Brigade? +

Acid applies a corrosion damage-over-time effect that stacks multiplicatively with augmentations. It is the best element for boss fights. Acid + Acid creates Corrosion (target deals reduced damage). Acid + Fire creates Brimstone (splash on corrosion proc). Acid + Dark creates Blight (corrupted enemies spread Acid).

Can you change elements mid-run? +

No โ€” once you infuse a spell with an element, that infusion is permanent for the run. You can choose different elements for each of your four spell slots (opened at Level 7 and Level 14), allowing up to two elemental infusions per run. Choose carefully โ€” the element should complement your chosen spell's hit pattern.

What is the Dark element good for? +

Dark/Void element corrupts enemies, changing their behavior. In general solo play it is C-tier. In a full team Dark corruption composition (all 4 players running Dark), it becomes the most powerful team build in the game. Dual-element combinations with Dark include Blight (+Acid), Wither (+Ice), Void (+Dark), and Hellfire (+Fire).

What is Wildfire vs regular Fire in The Spell Brigade? +

Wildfire is a significant upgrade over Fire. Wildfire spreads automatically between nearby enemies and โ€” in 1.0 โ€” can now inflict Critical Damage ticks. This means Critical Damage enchantments directly boost Wildfire builds, which was not true for regular Fire. Wildfire is rated A-tier while Fire is B-tier.

What is the Plasma element? +

Plasma is a high burst damage element most associated with Hatti the Frost Mage. It deals most of its punch in one hit rather than over-time damage. It is also central to the Pi Damage achievement (314,159 Plasma Damage), which references Pi in the target number.
